The Cello Sonata has been recorded before, on Audite. Edition Silvertrust have a very high opinion of the work - justifiably so:

This is a major cello sonata, which, in our opinion, is the equal to those of Brahms. That it is not heard in concert is a travesty.

Mark Thomas

I have the Audite recording and fully endorse that high opinion of the Cello Sonata. It's a wonderfully rich and satisfying work, and I'm looking forward very much to hearing this new interpretation.

Haven't heard this but since its a composition by Dietrich, I have no doubt that it will be something quite beautiful. This composer rarely disappoints.

It's a 100% first division masterpiece.

...and the new cpo performance is an excellent one - rather swifter in the first and last movements than the Audite, but expressing to the full the dreamy passages in which the piece abounds. IMHO this is as good as unsung music gets.
