Now here is an obscure but quite interesting one for you.

Discovered a very rare cd(on Prestige), made from private recordings, of orchestral and choral pieces by the South African, J S Gerber.

What a concoction of styles!

There are some quite attractive orchestral pieces, particuarly "Fiesta"; he has a couple of attractive melodies, which, sadly, once heard once, do not re-appear.
The style is late Romantic plus a dab of impressionism.

Then there is the Requiem, which quotes a tune from the Verdi requiem and, almost verbatim, in the Agnus Dei, the Paradisium of the Faure Requiem! :)

The performances are quite good, though the Requiem is Lp transfers.

Oddly, the orchestral pieces are orchestrated by Philip Sainton.

Anyone else got/(quite) like this esoteric cd?
