ZEMLINSKY LYRIC SYMPHONY.

Hi all!

I just have visited again the Zemlinsky´s Lyrical Symphony.
It seems to me that this work would keep some affinities with Mahler´s "The Earth Song". Nevertheless, I think the orchestral parts are clearly inspired in Strauss, and specially by the Strauss Operas.
Are you agree with me?

In a letter to his publisher, Zemlinski compared his Lyric Symphony to Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde. Zemlinsky was a great admirer of Mahler and conducted Mahler's symphonies. But I think the Lyric Symphony was also influenced by the first part of Schoenberg's Gurrelieder, which he would have been very familiar with. Of course, the music of Strauss was pervasive during this era. And the extended harmonies of Wagner influenced many composers.
