Odd movements as enticements to purchase the CD/download are understandable, but to make the whole thing available is crazy. The music is immediately attractive, and so that tactic would surely have paid off.

Like the Caro CD, this appears to be complete on YT - which is perhaps disheartening for those who have purchased either disc!

SPMK has uploaded what appears to be the whole of Hommage à Paul Caro to YT. It's beautiful music.

Composers & Music / Re: Kauffmann, Fritz (1855-1934)

After some absence from UC I have finally caught up with the Franke affair and with this thread on Kauffmann. May I say, most sincerely, heartfelt congratulations to all involved in exposing the abominable behaviour of the former and asserting the artistic rights and merits of the latter. What wonderful and talented people we have on UC. I am in awe!

Not wanting to divert from the topic, but it's difficult to reconcile those prices. I may be over-suspicious but Apple seems to me to be continually in trouble over downloads and royalties, so I always wonder if they are playing the game fairly.

It's such an attractive selection of pieces, and such a warm endorsement, that I am almost persuaded to 'double-up' on  my existing versions. The rediscovery of the music of Mel Bonis is a joy to behold!

Thanks, John.
From what you say, it sounds like it's time to re-visit Goetz. I can't recall any of his music, although I know I like it!
I too have CDs unopened - mostly boxed sets - but others almost worn through from repeated plays. ::)

I see the CD is on E-bay from AU$33 and US$20, and on Amazon UK at £11.50.

Good gracious! That is some list of works. I can't help but think that we are missing out on some really good and possibly great music.

A 3rd volume in 2036 :o  That hardly capitalizes on any commercial success with the previous two - and some of us may not be in the land of the living by that date!  :(

Fair point, Eric!  ;D

Recordings & Broadcasts / Re: Dubois Symphony No.3

Thank you for drawing attention to this fine symphony, Alan, with its markedly Elgarian combination of nobilmente and wistfulness. It doesn't appear to have been recorded, which I feel is a tragedy.

Composers & Music / Re: Louis Niedermeyer (1802-1861)

Well, his last opera is described as a failure, and as far as I can tell none has a history of live performance, and none have been recorded. He eventually abandoned composing operas and turned to teaching. So it seems likely that their neglect is "perhaps" deserved. Our chances of knowing either way are very slim!  :D

Recordings & Broadcasts / Re: Ysaÿe VC in E minor etc.

Well, this is fascinating, Alan. A "recently discovered" concerto to add to Ysaye's ouevre.
.. I find it all all rather confusing!
