A symphony by Marschner

[Mark Thomas]

The tireless Dario Salvi has been recording for Naxos a series of enjoyable and revealing CDs for Naxos of overtures, orchestral excerpts from operas and incidental music by Heinrich Marschner, early romantic composer of the gothic operas Der Vampyr and Hans Heiling. Dario has just announced the January 2027 release of the next in the series, which will feature a previously unknown (to me at least), unpublished and unfinished symphony - Naxos 8.574729. He writes on his Facebook post "which I not only restored, but also completed, as some sections were missing!". There's also an excerpt from the  work's third movement, a Minuetto, at SoundCloud here. Let's hope it's more symphonic than von Suppé's effort.

Very interesting,Mark.  I have totally overlooked vol.3, so that's been ordered.
