Friends,

You might be looking for a certain recording or performer, here's the address of the person I buy records from.

Hope it helps,

I have bought from him before as well. When he says an LP is NM or unplayed, it is. I have never had a package lost in shipping, although the packages can take 1-3 months.

Shipping from Russia is expensive. It's best to buy 5-8 LPs at a time to get the best deal on cost-per-record shipping.

He is on Ebay. I have also had good experience with other Russian retailers on Ebay for both LPs and CDs. Prices for all are about the same.

Compilation CDs of Russian recordings in MP3 format are available from these retailers. One can buy a CD with literally dozens of symphonies and concertos on one CD. If you are happy with MP3, it is a bonanza.

You can sometimes negotiate a discount if you buy multiple LPs or CDs.

They typically will not mix LPs with CDs. Separate shipping for both.

For CDs and LPs of Russian music, I recommend russiandvd.com. The default of the site is in Russian, but you can click for English. They are located in NY city.

I came across this shop through my contacts here in Moscow - "Zvukovoi Bar'er" (which means Sound Barrier in Russian) - www.sound-barrier.ru - it's an Aladdin's Cave of vinyl LPs, thousands and thousands of them, classical and other. I found some Unsungs there (Napravnik, Dunaevsky, Cui,...).

They have an English-language version of the site, and have now apparently catalogued all their records, so you can search for your favourite Unsung composers and artists.

What is the general opinion of the Melodyia 1974 version of "The Demon?" The orchestra is USSR union radio and the demon is sung by Polyakov. It seems there is going to be a nice offering of transfers from their catalog.
