I was speaking more towards the quality of poetry, and the probable inclination of audiences at the time who might not have had much sympathy for the sentiments expressed therein.

Of course, I admittedly speak from a humorous perspective, and an uninformed one at that.  I just can't get visions of Soviet Socialist Realist art, particularly painting, out of my head.

Well, FWIW Joe Hill is a good subject for an opera.  I wonder if anybody has ever done one on Sacco and Vanzetti?
