This looks like a must-have - an enticing 3CD set from Delos, performed by Kirsten Johnson, for only £10.10 from Amazon.co.uk!

The set has been available as a download from ClassicsOnline for a couple of weeks and is sitting on my hard drive, waiting to be sampled. I'd better get on and do so!

What a wonderful (and unexpected) bargain.

It shall sit on my shelves alongside those cherished Marco Polo discs of Foote's chamber music (I do think the Piano Quintet Op. 38 is one of the great American piano quintets).

I think anyone who enjoys Brahms's piano music of the 1870s and 1880s would like Suite No. 2, opus 30. It's special if played with fire. A few decades ago I arranged the Meditation, opus 61, for string orchestra. It's that kind of soulful music, akin to the Adagietto in Foote's opus 63. The Rubáiyát pieces, opus 48, are full of atmosphere and character. The Five Silhouettes, opus 73, are favorites. Just hitting personal highlights.
