Yesterday I was going through a couple of videos on youtube when i saw two very different versions of the aria "Agitata da due venti" From La Griselda by Vivaldi .
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hxWT6o3SwY
sung by Cecilia Bartoli
and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnIxa-QUL5U
by Vivica Genaux.
Bartoli is ofcourse a master, but when i saw the Genaux video I was a bit surprised..... is that the correct way to sing coloratura. I absolutely have no idea about singing techniques but Genaux's "lip" thing seemed a bit questionable.  I thought that Coloratura was sung from deep within (as with Bartoli!) and not by the lips!!!
Anyone out there who could give a clearer picture???

I have a couple of Bartoli discs. Her vocal dexterity is,undeniably, extroadinary; but she IS rather controversial, judging by allot of postings I have seen on various message boards. Listening to her is,sometimes like, watching an amazingly athletic gymnast,or circus acrobat, whizzing across the circus tent and diving through hoops!
