I'm sorry to hear that, Mark. The only other Prinz I know of is Louis Ferdinand, Prinz von Preussen. But all of his small number of works contain a piano part...

Again, thanks to britishcomposer, what Mark once uploaded could be restored. As for the piano quintet, a recording may never be existed.

Does anyone understand the naming convention of these Reuss Heinrichs?  For example, Heinrich VII of Franco-Prussian War fame was the son of Heinrich LXIII and the father of Heinrich XXXII.  That is, Heinrich the 63rd is the father of Heinrich the 7th, who in turn is father of Heinrich the 32nd? Oh my...

Anyone know if this is the Reuss that Liszt arranged his Grossekonzertsolo (S186) for?  He orchestrated it and interpolated some plainchant melodies, IIRC.
Thanks in advance....

No, that was Eduard Reuss, no relation to our Heinrich XXIV (son of Heinrich IV).

Ilja

All men in the Köstritz branch of the Reuss family are named Heinrich, and they're numbered sequentially per century. So for instance, Heinrich I (*1900) can be Heinrich LXVIII's (*1899) slightly younger nephew, and brothers can have very different numbers.

Thanks for that John!  Faulty memory on my part...

Ilja's Peerage and Baronetage to the rescue!  Thanks!

Second-hand knowledge, I fear. But it was one of my thesis supervisor's favourite anecdotes about nutty aristocratic habits.

This seems to confirm it, Ilja. In fact more generally, "All the males of the House of Reuss are named Heinrich (Henry) plus a number." from Imperial County of Reuss. Not at all clear whether Eduard Reuss was even tangentially one of the House of Reuss (moreso than we're all related), so agreed there too unless a genealogy chart disagrees :)
