The preface of the score itself however proves me wrong as to the composer's intended ordering, as it calls the New England the 2nd symphony and the Gulliver the first. The Gulliver may not have been -entirely- ready for etc. at the time, one gathers, but he was offering it for subscription anyway (maybe as an incentive to himself to completely finish it? Interesting question.)
