NEW CD from Naxos - Korngold Complete Songs Vol 2 [Cat No: 8573083]. Released June 25. For those with Vol 1, issued about 15 years ago, this is welcome news. Though why Vol 2 took so long is a mystery....

I'd like to be able to welcome this disc, but I find the singing of soprano Britta Stallmeister excruciatingly shrill and uncontrolled. If you want to hear these lovely songs properly done, albeit by a combination of baritone and soprano, you'd be much better off with this 2-CD set:

Indeed it was. I have no idea why it was held up, though possibly Alan Howe's assessment was shared by Naxos at the time...?
One track is missing - the Kaiserin Zitahymn. Presumably that was so bad, they wiped it.

In any case, there's just no enjoyment to be had in the singing on Naxos.
