I manage chamber ensembles in the UK. Some will be recognising anniversaries in 2012, most notably Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and Jean Françaix, as they are the composers who wrote works appropriate to the groups.

I forgot to mention that 'my' percussion ensemble will be doing special concerts to honour John Cage's 100th birthday.

Mostly pretty much unsung, I'd say; by the way, Martinet died on 20 December 2010 and Murtazin died in 1994.

I shall spend 4'33'' on September 5th 2012 mulling over all the things more worthwhile than paying any attention at all to John Cage...

Ouch! Harsh! have you heard any of the preludes for prepared piano? Many of them are quite delightful.

Delicious...what pieces will you play with percussion ensemble?
I am interested especially in unsung music and also contemporary music (conducting a group)

Thanks for the update on Martinet -- I wondered whether he could truly be still alive, but found no evidence to the contrary on the Web.

By the way, who is Murtazin? Unless I'm having a little mental blackout and don't remember him from my list, I don't believe I even know who he is...

I think Levitin was more Ukrainian/Soviet than Russian but not sure...
Was Jean Françaix (1912-1997) mentioned? also Wolfgang Büttner (1912-1990)...
