I should have downloaded it while it was still there; still, maybe I should buy it later. (It's true the last CD I purchased, Wellesz quartets, has an incomplete final movement in its download- which still has not been fixed at the website - leaving me thinking if I should be spending the price of a CD 2x in 3 years on what could also be a defective and unfixed product...the solution to which is not, I note, to do anything other than to let me take that chance; I am not asking for a copy of the download, I'm just grumbling out loud.)

Having listened to this recording for a few times with a couple of days' interval, I have to say that as much as I don't want to put a damper on things I don't think it comes close to Spinnato's premiere recording. There are some minor issues in the soundstage and a few of Bosch's choices sound odd*, but neither of these is fatal.

The soprano, however, is - she appears to lack the stamina required for the piece, sounds really out of breath at places ("... vollendet der Lauf"), and her diction could be better ("unerte Lust"?). The Spinnato suffers a bit from muddiness in the recording, but Jacquelyn Wagner does have the presence for this music and it contains the organ part.

It could be that the singer just had an off-day and if so, I hope that Hännsler can draw from another evening's performance.

* But, having only seen the score once, I can't really confirm that they are.

Now this problem has been fixed.

Thanks. Hoping amazon.com will reflect the change sometime :) (May 6: which it's now done, so I've spent the USD 2 and will replace the track in my collection.)
