A digital performance of Erkki Melartin's (1875–1937) thoughtfully written, expressive cantata written towards the end of his life. As far as I know, only performed once on 11 October 1935 at the Finska Läkarsällskapets jubileum in Helsinki.

Regrettably, the sung Swedish lyrics couldn't be transmitted in this format, so I highly recommend following the video with the subtitles enabled (and translated into your language of choice) on Youtube. The desired and pronounced effect of this rather difficult work lies in following the unfolding, idealised dialogue between a patient and their doctor(s) that touches on the nature of mortality and medicine. At its premiere in 1935, the cantata was said to have been very well received, creating a moving impression on its audience.

The year 2025 marks 150 years since the birth of the composer, so several celebratory concerts and events have been realised in Finland this year. I also wanted to work on one of Melartin's works before the end of the year, and this video and score are the result of that  :)
