Worldcat also lists a recording by Svetlanov and Grach of two sonatinas for violin and piano (by Svetlanov? composed apparently 1948-9, and available also on YouTube. Grach btw was born 1930 and is apparently still alive?...)

The sonatinas are available for streaming on Piano Works, Vol. 6

Theodore, are you cooperating with Bartje Bartmans recently? What are your newly discovered recordings aside from what he has uploaded?

Theodore S.

Hello again,
It's true, I have sent Bartje Bartmans a number of these Svetlanov pieces. However, almos everything he's posted was already on the internet, except for the Aria for viola, which is from a vinyl in my collection.

A friend of mine has been digitizing from a vinyl with several piano pieces, which he's been posting on his channel:

In other news, I now believe the Svetlanov Violin Sonata recording with Eduard Grach may be held in the studios of GOSTELRADIOFOND in Russia (they have a few channels on YouTube, with digitized TV broadcasts and reel-to-reel phonogram tapes, among other things). My friend actually wrote about digitizing a couple other broadcasts in their collection, but found out that the price for a digitization can be anywhere from 5-100 euros per minute. We'll probably just have to wait for either a new recording of the Sonata (and other pieces recorded reel-to-reel), or wait for GOSTELRADIOFOND to release the recordings of their own volition.

Dear members, I've commissioned a recording of the entire Svetlanov's Violin Sonata. The recording has been made between April and July, the three movements separately recorded. This has been completed a couple of days ago and I will upload the whole performance to the Download section very soon. It's a pity that the time hadn't been arrived for it to be uploaded to the recording section of IMSLP.

Fairly sure IMSLP wouldn't allow it, and not unreasonably.

I was meaning that it would take another fifty years......

Ah, ok. Hrm. This was published in 1984.

"These works have a copyright if they meet either of the following requirements:
Publication occurred with a valid copyright notice (see section on form of valid notice)
Registration with the US Copyright Office occurred within 5 years of publication made without a notice
If a work did not meet either requirement, then it is the public domain, unless the work is URAA-eligible (see section below on foreign works).
For the term of copyright for these works, see the section below on the term of copyright for works published from 1978 to 2002." If the work is by a known individual author with a known death date: 70 years from the author's death (which is the case here). So US copyright for this work is similar to that in the EU so long as the work was properly registered at the time (unlikely, Cold War laws) or a Notice of Intention to Enforce has been placed on the work since (this has been done by the Russian Government with quite a number of Prokofiev's works, for example, perhaps Svetlanov's too. Upshot is you are very probably right in regards the US copyright term -as well- as the Canadian and European copyrights which are more certainly 70 years. So 48 years or so until 2073 when his works come out of copyright, yes.

Weirdly, I see a link where one can just download the G minor violin sonata in score, maybe they never enforced the copyright, or the person who uploaded the sonata is just not terribly concerned. Ah well

tuatara442442

Yes, I obtained the score from that link Theodore posted.

Hi! I have a small question. Me and my friend are planning to play a recital in April this year and we would love to play 5 melodies for violin and piano by Svetlanov. I tried searching everywhere but I can't find music score for this piece. Is there anybody here who could tell me where possibly I could find it or somebody possess somehow the copy of the piece?
