Grimm Symphony/Suite in Kanonform (cpo)

My copy has just arrived,and I have completed the first play-through.  I immediately thought, for some unknown reason, that the second movement sounded like the kind of funeral tribute payable to a prince of Lippe-Detmold.

So,I googled Leopold II and, by coincidence, he died at the start of 1851.

Second time of playing, and I reckon this highly individual symphony deserves its long-overdue recording.

Bored to tears by the coupling,though.

Funny you should say that because I gave up on the symphony after a few hearings, but the only thing that rescued the disc from the give-away pile was the sprightly, high-spirited Suite.

...whereas I value the Symphony highly and have also come to enjoy the Suite, especially its opening movement. We're all different...
