Hermann Gustav Goetz Born 17 December 1840 Died 3 December 1876 Konigsberg died Hottingen nr. Zurich
His initial music studies were at Konigsberg University. Subsequently studying at The Stern Conservatory, Berlin with Hans von Bulow and Hugo Ulrich. From 1867 he spent the next three years as an organist in Winterthur, Switzerland. After 1870 he devoted himself entirely to composing. He married in 1868 1

There are going to be two live performances of the Goetz Symphony in F Op.9 this weekend at Bard College by the American Symphony conducted by Leon Botstein.
Oh, that's good news. Wonder whether it'll turn up as a download-only recording...?
It'd be good to have another interpretation preserved.
Goetz's "late" four-hand keyboard sonata is a treasure worth seeking out.

My first encounter with Goetz - as it perhaps was for many people - was an LP on which his piano concerto was coupled with the concerto by Bronsart von Schellendorf, played by Michael Ponti. It is heartening to see that so much of his music, supposedly all his orchestral and chamber works, has since become available on CD.
