Charles William Arthur Hervey Born 24 January 1855 Paris - Died 10 March 1922 London
He was the son of a landed Irish family of Killane Castle, Co. Wexford, who was born during their stay in Paris. Educated in Birmingham, his intended career was that of a diplomat. He decided to study music with Berthold Tours and Edouard Marlis. He subsequently became a composer, journalist, author and music critic.
He spent most of his adult life in England. He left a substantial estate valued at £19,545 to his wife, Clara Jane.

Wonder if the "Ione" Prelude of 1907 is related to the opera "Ilona" of 1914?
In reply to Eschiss 1, Berthold Tours was born in Rotterdam in 1838 and died in London in 1897. He spent most of his latter years in London as musical advisor for Novello.
His compositions are mainly for the church, or violin. He also wrote a considerable number of songs.
