Halina Krzyżanowska Born Paris 4.8.1860 Died Rennes 18.1.1937
She was born to slightly impoverished Polish aristocrats living in Paris and was a countess in her own right. She enrolled at the Conservatoire; studying composition under Ernest Guiraud and Felix Le Couppy; and piano under Antoine Marmontel. She graduated with first prize in 1880. Her orchestral music was said to be greatly influenced by Saint-Saens. She followed this by touring as a concert pianist, principally in France and Poland. In 1889 she joined the Rennes Conservatory as a professor of piano, teaching the most advanced students.

Interesting. According to WorldCat the Cello Sonata (Op. 27 is given) was also published by Hamelle, and BNF has a copy. Basel and Bern libraries have the String Quartet. I cannot find library locations for the 2 violin sonatas, which is strange, considering they were published.
Ah - wait a minute. Her name is actually KRZYZANOWSKA. Put that in and a lot more entries come up. The Op. 28 violin sonata appears in NUKAT; also Bayerische Staatsbibliothek; Obelin College, Ohio and Indiana University, Bloomington. WorldCat has another separate entry for a Violin Sonata at BNF, but the record does not give either key or opus number (which is very unhelpful) so we don't know if it is another copy of the Op. 28, or the Op. 47. There is also an Elegie for cello & piano Op. 40 and a Meditation for violin & piano, Op. 42, both published by Mathot and both in BNF.
Thanks, Gareth. Spelling duly corrected.
Thank you Gareth for the additions.
Thanks for introducing us to her, Giles.
