The Bruno Walter thread has prompted me to dig out my copy of the cpo recording of Hermann Bischoff's Symphony No.2 - another distinctly derivative piece, but much more fun in its Straussian way. So, if you like these minor late, late Romantic symphonies (I do, I must confess), try giving Bischoff 2 a go. Audio excerpts here...

...and I notice that it's on sale for EUR7.99!
I have both Bischoff's Symphony Nos. 1 and 2, Alan ;D
I shall certainly give both another listen :)
As I have said before, the von Hausegger Natursymphonie is my favourite of that group of late Romantic symphonies :)
I have the Bischoff 2 and agree completely with Alan opinion. ( BTW I remember the booklet notes - in English or French translation - as a bit odd .....I'll try again with the notes).
I've just returned to this piece. And it's more than a minor late-romantic symphony. It's a minor late-romantic masterpiece. Beautifully orchestrated, rich in melody and generous in spirit. Just the thing for the jaded palate...
