On Wednesday, January 10th, 14:00 (London time, i.e. 15:00 Central European time) BBC Radio 3 will broadcast Jospeh Marx' "Autumn Feast" (a rework of the 4th mouvement of the "Autumn Symphony") and other works. The recording was made during the BBC studio concert on November 1st (cond.: Simone Young, https://www.bbc.co.uk/events/e64wxj). Since the piece has so far only be recorded once by cpo, this may be of interest!

Does anyone know if there is a chance to get a recording of this concert?

Recordings & Broadcasts / Braunfels Ulenspiegel DVD
Wednesday 28 September 2016, 09:21
Capriccio will release a DVD of Walter Braunfels' opera "Ulenspiegel" (from the performances in Linz/Austria in September 2014) in January 2017. Already now the DVD can be ordered by mail to office@entarteopera.com, they possibly sell it cheaper (22,- Euro - I do not know the regular prize) but charge shipping costs. I have bought it already: sound (stereo and surround) and vision are great, the performance was wonderful (I have seen it three times in Linz)! Subtitles in English and German are included.

There is also an old trailer somwhere at the homepage, but the sound of that one is not good, since the trailer is not taken from the DVD but was quickly and sloppily produced right after the performances.

Recordings & Broadcasts / Martin Scherber - symphony 1
Saturday 04 October 2014, 08:14
Swiss conductor Adriano has recorded Martin Scherber's 1st symphony with the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra. As the other Scherber symphonies (the 3rd has been released on col legno long ago, the second can be ordered at  http://www.martin-scherber.de/scherber-bestellung-zweite.html) number 1 sounds like *better* Bruckner but is not so crazy as 2 & 3. I do not yet know the label where this 28-minutes symphony (coupled with songs) will be released. For those who have never heard of Martin Scherber before: Rush out to listen!

Composers & Music / More Braunfels
Thursday 15 May 2014, 16:43
Fortunately, Braunfels is no longer a completely unsung composer anymore. Still, there are works to discover. Dutton epoch has recently released his wonderful Piano Concerto + Scottish Fantasy. cpo is to release his Sinfonia concertante op 68 together with a string orchestra version of his string quintet. Also with cpo there soon comes a CD "Radiomusiken II" with Theis conducting, including Braunfels' "Divertimento". On 22. 6. WDR will broadcast a better cut version of the recent "Das Leben ein Traum" from Bonn, which will not come on CD since the tenor was indisposed. On May 8th there will be a performance (and certainly broadcast) of "Auferstehung" op 72 in Munich with Schirmer. Finally, there will be a staged performance of "Ulenspiegel" in Linz in September (not in the new opera house, but in the "Tabakfabrik") - let us hope that there will be a broadcast/recording, too. Any further Braunfels' news? Does anyone know about the long planned "Braunfels all songs" CD with Marlis Petersen?
