A chance for Unsung Composers buffs to shine !
Picked up yesterday in the marvellous Gramex shop in Waterloo a Marco Polo disc of Guatemalan composer Ricardo Castillo(1894-1966); a ballet score Paal Kaba, incidental music from another Quiche Achi, plus a Rhapsody for Orchestra, Symphonic Poem & several other pieces. Much based on Mayan legend & Amerindian musical sources, according to the blurb, and very listenable too, thank you !
Internet research thus far has failed to throw up anything about him,  so over to you !

And while we're at it, any more real 'one-offs' out there that people have come across ? Come on, Ladies & Gentlemen, how about a real 'Obscurities Corner' on USC ! If they're as pleasant as this, which I'm listening to now, it'll be a delight to discover them - this of course is where you tell me 'Oh, we've had a page devoted to him/this topic for years' !

Downloads Discussion Archive / Azerbaijani composers
Tuesday 31 January 2012, 11:53
Always on the lookout for 'novelty', was intrigued by the Naxos disc 'Azerbaijani piano concertos', which I found fascinating, and has led me to try to find out a little more about Fikret Amirov & fellow countrymen/women.
Anyone know/have anything more ?

Thanks.                          Clive.

Downloads Discussion Archive / Downloads by 'genre' ?!
Sunday 25 September 2011, 15:08
Dear All.

I have the most glorious time learning about music on this site, and the downloads section is just...too good to be true, for which many, many thanks to everyone involved.
The naming of folders by country is entirely logical & works very well. Did wonder, though, as a particular 'fan' of choral music, whether there could be any mileage in creating folders for specific types of composition.
It'd be my idea of heaven to find one with countless little-known requiems/oratorios etc. - others no doubt would welcome concerti, solo instrument, solo voice.... and so on.
Sorry if it's a silly idea; I'm a very ignorant follower of the site & can't be expected to know any better. Very best wishes to all.

Downloads Discussion Archive / Swedish music
Sunday 04 September 2011, 15:43
Can't tell you how much I enjoy browsing this site, finding many composers quite unknown to me, more details on those I'm just beginning to learn a little about, and of course the marvellous downloads section.
Since a good few of my new composer acquaintances are Swedish, I looked amongst the download topics for a Swedish section, but unless I'm being even dimmer than usual, haven't spotted one. So much else IS up there that I wonder if there's some good reason for its absence, or maybe I can prevail on someone to start one.
Many thanks to everyone who, however unwittingly, is contributing to my belated musical education. It's a joy, really, to visit the site !

Suggestions & Problems / downloading .rar files
Saturday 06 August 2011, 17:40
:-\ Ah, gentlemen - and ladies: quite incredible, this site. Much of it sadly way too erudite for the likes of me.

I am greatly enjoying the download facility (I can hear what I love, even if I can't begin to understand the textual appreciation of why I might love it!) - during which process I note with appreciation that one of my great mentors from You Tube, Fyrexianoff, has surfaced among you !
Hi, Tony, delighted to see a familiar by-line !
Can anyone help me on .rar downloads ? I' m hideously incompetent at all this IT stuff; and loath, I'm afraid, to start paying out for things that I'm sure those brighter than I am are getting for free.
Mediafire has served very well for a number of gorgeous pieces - .rar defeats me entirely. Any help available ? Much appreciated if it is !
