Composers & Music / Wilhelm Berger String Trio (1898)
Tuesday 12 September 2023, 18:28
If anyone here is interested, there is to be a performance of Wilhelm Berger's String Trio on Saturday 23rd September at East Claydon Church, Bucks as part of the Music in Quiet Places series. Other music in the concert relevant to this forum is a viola/cello duo by Rebecca Clarke.

Judging by the piano writing in the Piano Quintet on MDG, his Piano Concertos should be well-worth exploring - Hyperion?
#3
Would the other Goltermann cello concertos not be ideal material for Hyperion's Romantic Cello Concertos' series . . . if there are to be any more
#4
I like the works, but my ears cannot cope with period pianos, so no purchase by me!

The whole album is available to listen to on Spotify - a great encouragement to buy a cd of works and composers I was hardly aware of before.
#6
The Toccata website states that there are seven cds in the complete series.
#7
All works can be heard in full on Spotify
#8
The whole cd is available to listen to on Spotify

The cover is shown on the Hyperion website, as 'coming soon', but the print is too small to decipher.
Does anyone have a Hyperion contact who could give details?

Those who have access to the BBC Music magazine will find that the free CD with the November issue is of Florence Price's Symphony 3 in C minor and the Concert Overture 1, together with two works by other composers not relevant in this forum.
The performances are BBC recordings from 2019, the Symphony by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales conducted by Valentina Peleggi, and the Overture by the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Michael Seal.
My copy arrived today, but I have not had the opportunity of listening to it yet.

Composers & Music / Re: Stephen Elmas (1862-1937)
Monday 03 August 2020, 22:34
Further to earlier postings, Hyperion's website shows as 'coming soon' piano concertos by Elmas.  Unfortunately, the cover image is not clear, but it looks as though two concertos are included.  I cannot make out which two, nor details of the pianist, but perhaps someone with links to Hyperion may know more?
Having already bought all three concertos on cd from the Elmas Foundation, I would still be interested in the Hyperion issue and, regardless of whether the concertos are great music or not, they will certainly fit very well into the Hyperion Romantic Piano Concertos series.

Last year, the Piano Concertos, or at least some of them, were listed in Toccata Classics Pipeline as forthcoming, but the listing has now gone, so presumably new recordings are not now likely, at least not from Toccata - pity.

Recordings & Broadcasts / Fernand de la Tombelle
Friday 18 October 2019, 20:16
Presto Classical has announced the issue on 15th November on Bru Zane (BZ1038) in the format of 3CDs and hardback book of various works by Tombelle (of whom mention has been made here before), including a Fantasie for piano and orchestra, two orchestral suites, piano quartet, suite for three cellos, cello sonata.  Audio samples are available, and sound enticing.

Recordings & Broadcasts / Re: Röntgen Piano Concertos

There is also a Composers Voice cd (CV064) of the D major Concerto, op18 and two single-movement concertos collectively called Zwei Konzerte, played by Folke Nauta, with the Orkest van het Oosten conducted by Jurjen Hempel.
Is it known where these Zwei Konzerte fit in the canon?

Recordings & Broadcasts / Beach, Chaminade & Howell
Sunday 04 September 2016, 05:03
Danny Driver's website (www.dannydriver.com) has announced that he has recorded concertante works by Amy Beach, Cecile Chaminade and Dorothy Howell with the BBCSSO conducted by Rebecca Miller, to be issued by Hyperion, presumably in its RPC series.
