Composers & Music / Re: Who's afraid of Webern?
Thursday 22 July 2010, 05:55
Very few of Webern sticks to me, some good moments here and there .. from the same area or around there is Schoenberg'"s early romantic string orchestral work and 1 string Quartet  .. also Zemlinsky's 1st string Quartet & 2 Symphony,  ala'Romantic era Brahms Style.  and ..Heart on your sleeves romantics by Catorie, Russian Composer's Piano Trio 1st Movement. the Goldenweiser, Rostropovich version gets me the most.

 Hey guys,

Yes Alan, Eschiss1, Marcus, I also have a liking to  the Blumenfeld's Symphony. a better recording would it feel even more  dramatic yes eventhough it might not be the best recording .. it is the only one  out there for  now. .  the coupling on the russian disc@ lable wasn't really memroble to me .. I could have just not have paid to much attention to it. As i did for the Blumenfeld Symphony  which was the reason for me buying the CD a few years back.  I still see my self  coming back to it because it's got somthing in it that makes it intriguing and making me go back to it evey so often.

I believe his String Quartets are underated. Very nice pieces of Art. from the top of the head I can think of a delightful disc by the Dutton Label which  includes Grechaninov's String Quartet #3 along with Lyapunov ' finely composed darkish-romantic Sextet, a gem. Thank you for the recomendation about his 5th  Symphony. I have his 1st & 2nd on Marco Polo Label but have not listen to in a while.. Thanks for the reminder <(",)>

Hamerik is a Good composer his symphonies are respectable Symphony no. 6 could possibly be the more memorable. 5 is good also. hmm .. I can't remeber how the others  sound I have not listened to them in a while. Gotta dig them up and listen to them again. Thanks for the reminder. on a side note  I'd also recommend J.p Hartmann's symphony No.2  it's coupled with No.1 on  the Dacapo lable I believe.

Composers & Music / Re: Father and son Fesca

Hi all,

I'm with you Syrelius,

The Fesca Symphonies are very good I Recommend then too . lots of energy. I also tried the string quartets but wasn't too satisfied.. they are plesent yet  too predictable for  my taste. Good quartet writing  in the Cassical style not Romantic. They didn't grab me by the throat.

Hi Everybody. For the past few months I've been tinkering with the  Idea of  transcribing unsung Symphonies that have not been recorded into virtual Music. I'm not sure if the Technology exists yet. I know there is MIDI formats but I believe the sound is not Fully orchestral I also heard of Sibelius.. Yet I am not sure if the music that one produces out of it is Convincingly real.. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Composers & Music / Re: Unsung Romantic Cello Concertos
Thursday 03 September 2009, 16:53
I'd have to say  Lalo's Cello Concerto is a dark lovely work. And Mabey Emil Hartmann's Cello concerto too. On a more classical tone you will find Josef Rejcha 1752-1795 who's cello concertos are enjoyable.

Composers & Music / Re: Unsung Clarinet Concertos

mmm . Well  how about Friedrich Witt's Flute Concerto.. okay okay so it's not a Clarinet concerto but it sure is a lovely piece .. I espcially like in on the  MDG@ label  because it's coupled with Symphony #6 in Aminor "Sinfonie turque" which for some time was mistakely attributed to Beethoven .. this disc also includes His Ninth Symphony  which is a true Gem a very fine Piece.

I Just Checked www.recordsinternational.com to see the August Catalogue and found this new Cd Set By Genesis Label .. the pianist is Adrian Ruiz.. It's not a reissue from old Lp Material, but new stuff.. looks to be a good Set.

Aside from Hiller the other disc that could be ok is Herzogenberg's Piano Quintet in C Op.17 and his last String Quartet in Fminor Op.63 on CPO Label, in the same August Catalogue.

I'm still very anxiously awaiting for Gernsheim's Piano Quintets.. I hope they come out soon!

Recordings & Broadcasts / Re: Noskowski Symphony 1
Thursday 23 July 2009, 20:17
My Respects to Mr. Noskowski Indeed. Mark you mentioned the 3rd symphony is  nothing to scoff about . That got me thinking .. has any of his symphonies been recorded? and how many symphonies did  Noskowski make?

Composers & Music / Re: Marco Polo: the legacy
Tuesday 23 June 2009, 21:21
Hey all!

I have to agree Marco Polo is a cornerstone to unsung 19th century composers. It would be great if they or Naxos were to restart a UnSung 19th Century Composer series taking hints from CPO. Anywho some of my favorite MP discs ( this is tough) would be
Grechaninov's String Quartets very lovely pieces
Robert Fuchs Piano Sonatas
Peter Arnold Heise's Piano Quintet written as a response to  Brahms' quintet and his Cello sonata
Ohh and How Can I forget  * Kuhlau's Piano Quartets and the Dramatic Violin Sonata! double CD A terrifc Find!
