Composers & Music / Camille Fontaine
Saturday 02 May 2015, 22:59
Hi
I'm struggling to find information about the Brussels flutist/composer Camille Fontaine [b. 1858].
Has anybody got any information they could share, please?

It just occurred to me that you may be interested in the articles that I research and write about forgotten composers of flute music. They are published every quarter in the Journal of the British Flute Society, but I also put them on my website. I have uncovered and put together some interesting facts, although I struggled with the latest one on Ferdinand Sabathil - it will have to be an ongoing project!

Tactus are offering the complete piano music including the latest CD of unpublished pieces and the piano concerto for the special price of 50 euros [including shipping]. 8 CD's performed by Francesco Caramiello who is one of the best interpreters of Sgambati's music.

Composers & Music / G A Macfarren flute music
Monday 27 January 2014, 12:42
It has been a most interesting project publishing the flute music written by Sir George Alexander Macfarren. I also wrote a long article about it for the British Flute Society. It is unique in the flute player's repertoire in being music that is Classical in style [akin to Mendelssohn] and written specifically for the flute.

  • Sonata
    Concerto
    Recitative & Aria
    Three Trifles
    Trio

My efforts to track down the full score of the Concerto have been unsuccessful so I am in the process of re-orchestrating it from the piano arrangement by Natalie Macfarren which, unfortunately is very well done and cleverly adapted for the piano so finding my way back to the original scoring is rather hard work!
Anyhow the take up of copies has been quite good, especially in Norway, so I hope some performances/recordings will soon be available - it's good stuff !

Composers & Music / 200th Birthday Celebrations
Saturday 05 May 2012, 09:09
200th birthday celebrations begin next week for Emilie Mayer, the so-called 'Female Beethoven'.  Concerts between May and will be held in Berlin and its environs, beginning in Neubrandenburg on Thursday with the new world premieres of her symphony in E major and piano concerto.

I shall be in the audience of the opening night and particularly excited as the Philharmonic orchestra will be performing from the edition published by me.  I hope some of you other enthusiasts manage to be there also.

Composers & Music / Sgambati - again!
Monday 28 November 2011, 01:40
If anyone is interested to hear some of Sgambati's 2nd symphony, I've put the 2nd movement on YOuTube
http://youtu.be/leGPTikJRBo.
It's part of the new edition that I'm publishing with corrections, better layout and better recording (technology just goes on getting better!)

Also, the 1st symphony is being performed in Rome next weekend.
