Recordings & Broadcasts / Re: Opus 1 feminin

It's not even fully correct. Chaminade has Op. 1/1 and Op. 1/2....this is 1/2.

Quote from: jdperdrix on Saturday 06 May 2023, 20:58Robertson's version is definitely incomplete, missing nos 1, 13, 16, 18, 20, 21 and 22 of the ballet. The order on the record is not the right order either...

I have this recording, and when I tagged it in 2013, my research showed the disc has music in the following order:
2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 19, 5, 12, 14, 15, 17 and 23. I'd have to check, but it might actually be in the liner notes.

Dutton claims:

World Premiere Recording [My Lady Brocade]

First Digital Recording [In Holiday Mood, Three Fanciful Etchings, A Mayfair Cinderella, In a Fairy Realm, In a Camp of the Ancient Britons, A Japanese Carnival, Silver Cloud, Mind the Slide!, Wildhawk]

First Recording of the Original Orchestration [From a Japanese Screen]

First Complete Recording of the Original Orchestration [A Birthday Greeting]

I haven't looked to see what I do own or not, but hey it's Ketelbey so I'll pretty much have to get this....

As for sound samples, it seems that Dutton is stuck in the 90s. It's crazy that in 2023 it's almost impossible to find them for Dutton discs.

Huh, they released the piano works by themselves digitally not too long ago. Playing is fine but the sound quality is pretty harsh at points alas....

Recordings & Broadcasts / Re: Recording of Raff's Samson

I've contributed to many crowd funding campaigns. I know how they work. But I've never seen a one where the lowest tier to get the product is such an investment compared to the eventual probable retail price of it.

And I reading that right, that the lowest tier to get the CD is equivalent to $163?

It's on streaming sites, so there's that.

It also includes William Henry Fry's Niagara Symphony (which is also on the Naxos disc dedicated to Fry...)

Chaminade's Callirhoe Suite is on there too. While the entire ballet had a recording a few years back, I've never seen a recording of the published suite.

What IS this set? A compilation of old very rare recordings? A mix of old and new? It's very curious...

Hmmm, still waiting on this one, had the YT video bookmarked since this post.. But I suppose given it's CPO it's not surprising it's not out yet.

Well there is another benefit I suppose that most in here won't care too much, is they will be available to digital sale and streaming on across the web rather than being landlocked to Hyperion's own site.
#41
I mean maybe there will be a small benefit of some mega boxsets for cheap for those inclined but beyond that yeah....RIP the monthly free FLACs too probably.
#42
So now that it's out....is the disc a CD-R like other recentish Sterling releases?
#43
I gave it a listen, and while it's not bad per se, it didn't engage me enough to want to buy the CD.
#44
It's probably some silliness like "in this new edition (that actually changes basically nothing but a few articulations and what not)".
#45
Interesting. Was the Op. 90 arrangement known? I have the other quartets showing a piano duet version but not #2 for some reason. Might just be a mistake on my part...
