Found on YouTube a performance of Prout's Clarinet Concerto performed by the Greenwich Chamber Orchestra with David Cutts conducting and Peter Cigleris on the clarinet. According to the video, it is a world premiere performance.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIETCwZdYxY

Similar to Prout's fourth symphony which I posted in higher quality here a couple months ago, the concerto sounds like it was written in a late classical or early romantic style. I recommend that everyone reads the description of the video as it gives an interesting story on how the work was discovered.

I recently purchased a rare Philips LP (N 00738R) of music from festivals in Basel, by both Hans Huber and Hermann Suter. The stage tunes are immediately appealing which would make sense for the mass populace for which they were written.

As far as my research shows, Huber wrote for the Kleinbasler Gedenkfeier in 1892 (500th anniversary of Basel Unification) and the Basler Bund 1901 (400th anniversary of Basel joining the Swiss Confederacy). There's a good bruchure on Huber's contributions here.

Suter wrote for the Sankt Jakob an der Birs festival in 1912 (to commemorate the 1444 Battle of St. Jakob an der Birs) and the Riehener Festspiel in 1923 (to commemorate the unification of the municipality of Riehen with Basel).

It appears that some of Huber's works were performed in 2014, but I cannot find any recording of them. The LP I have dates from the early 1950s in mono, but I wonder if anything else exists out there.

An interesting virtual reproduction of the work by the sheet music publisher, Albis Music.

The piece was written by Glass in 1888 and the publisher claims it is "The one and only romantic concert for oboe and orchestra written between 1823 and 1944."

My guess is that the range of years is bookended by Vincenzo Bellini's and Vaughan Williams' concertos, although one can also point to Charles Chaix's Choral for Oboe and Strings from 1944.

I would love to hear this recorded sometime in the future.

I would like to share from YouTube a Cello Concerto by "Rod McKuen," actually ghostwritten by Patric Standford. It was composed in 1976 but it follows the British Neo-Romantic style.

I wonder if the CPO recording will be different?

New CD by Naxos due on March 11th this year, by a composer I have never seen mentioned on this forum before:

https://www.prestomusic.com/classical/products/9267939--martin-pluddemann-the-ballads-songs-and-legends

https://www.jpc.de/jpcng/classic/detail/-/art/balladen-und-gesaenge/hnum/10776555

Martin Plüddemann (1854-1897) was mainly known as a composer of ballads and appears to have been influenced by Bruckner and Carl Loewe.
