Hi Darrel, since you're new to UC, allow me to mention my discography of piano-and-orchestra works, the short version of which is online at https://www.siue.edu/~aho/discography/Discography.pdf.  This will let you know if a recording exists of a particular work (note:  underlined works are in electronic rather than real performances).  My full discography (offline) includes record/CD labels, performers, sources, etc.; I am happy to provide additional information as needed.  This will save you from preparing midi versions of works that have already been recorded in some form.  I look forward to your future uploads.

Thanks, Gareth.  Maybe he will revise his midi if he has the time.

Darrel Hoffman has uploaded a midi realization of Borgstrøm's piano concerto in C, Op. 22 (1910), based on the two-piano score he found on IMSLP:  see <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzGVvoCsZB0&t=870s>

Perhaps someone can help him locate the full score which includes 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets (B♭), 2 bassoons + 4 horns, 2 trumpets (C), 3 trombones + timpani + strings.

Christopher, was the concert you attended on 2 Sept. 2023 or on 31 Aug. 2023, as noted on the youtube videos of the piano concerto and cello concerto?  Were there two performances?

Composers & Music / Re: Vasyl Barvinsky (1888-1963)
Thursday 11 January 2024, 16:17
I believe that the Oksana Rapita recording of the Barvynsky piano concerto uses the revised orchestration (with a lighter texture) by Bohdana Frolyak, 2019.  This version was also used for the following CD:

INSO-Lviv ("Bridges, Vol. 1"):  Kateryna Titova/INSO [Internat. New SO]-Lviv Youth O/Yaroslav Shemet (2023)

I do not have the scores to compare.  Perhaps Christopher can confirm.

Recordings & Broadcasts / Re: Gonzalo Curiel Piano Concertos
Saturday 30 September 2023, 23:15
Unfortunately, the Curiel piano concerto CD has been in Toccata's pipeline for years, as evidenced by its low catalog number (0338).  That's some 370 discs before the latest listing in the pipeline.  Maybe Martin Anderson can let us know whether this will ever be released and, if so, when.

Conductor Eugene Tzigane's website <https://eugenetzigane.com/performances> notes that the 3 Josef Labor Concert Pieces for Piano Left-Hand & Orchestra were recorded between 9-13 Jan. 2023.  Not sure which label will release this recording, but it's something to watch for.  Here are the details:

Labor, Josef (1842-1924) Austria
Concert Piece I in D (in the Form of Variations) for Piano Left-Hand and Orchestra (1915)
Concert Piece II in f for Piano Left-Hand and Orchestra (1916-17)
Concert Piece III in E-flat for Piano Left-Hand and Orchestra (1923)
Oliver Triendl/Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz/Eugene Tzigane (9-13 Jan. 2023)

The Chineke! CD appears to follow the rediscovered orig. score, not the Weston reconstruction.  The orig. score is at https://issuu.com/scoresondemand/docs/piano_concerto_58911.  A quick way to identify the versions is to check m.236; in the Weston, the oboe re-enters with piano and orchestra whereas in the orig. score there is just oboe and piano.

In today's new release email from Hyperion, there's a thumbnail of a forthcoming CD of the two Tellefsen piano concertos played by Howard Shelley.  Also on that CD will be a work by Kalkbrenner, but I can't make out the title.  Perhaps someone else can figure it out.

Recordings & Broadcasts / Beethoven Double Concerto
Tuesday 28 March 2023, 22:15
Back in 2020, Derek Gleeson arranged Beethoven's Violin Concerto, Op. 61, and the composer's own arrangement for piano and orchestra, Op. 61a, as a double concerto.  A 7' excerpt has been on youtube since then, performed by Pavel Šporcl (vn), Svetlana Smolina (pf), and the Dublin PO under Gleeson.  It appears that the whole arrangement was recorded at the studios of Bulgarian National Radio, but I have not been able to track it down and inquiries to the performers have yielded no response.  Does anyone have this recording or another performance?  Maybe Toccata Classics or some other label could release what appears to be an interesting fusion of the composer's two versions of Op. 61.

Composers & Music / Re: Kashperova Piano Concerto
Wednesday 30 November 2022, 19:35
The 5-episode Kashperova "Composer of the Week" broadcasts will be on BBC Radio 3, Dec. 12-16 (see https://boosey.com/cr/news/Leokadiya-Kashperova-is-BBC-Radio-3-Composer-of-the-Week/102071).  The episodes on Dec. 13 & 15 mention excerpts from the piano concerto.  One hopes that we will get to hear the complete work even if it is divided among two episodes.

That's correct Gareth.  Here's the info. from my discography:
Concerto [in d] in One Movement (1934; 2010 reconstruction of the score (then thought to be lost) by Trevor Weston from the two- and three-piano versions by the composer)
Albany 1295:  Karen Walwyn/New Black Music Repertory Ens./Leslie Dunner

This première performance of the Helen Hagan Piano Concerto, with orchestration by Soomin Kim, will be streamed live at music.yale.edu/live.  The pianist will be Samantha Ege, who recently recorded the two-piano version of the score on Lorelt 145.
