I've just reviewed his 3rd Violin Sonata with piano left hand (the disc was Paul Wittgenstein Left hand legacy on Cobra records - HIGHLY recommended). It is a gorgeous piece so this is very welcome news.

I am looking forward to the new disc of Preludes and Etudes. I had forgotten about the earlier disc but this was partly and perhaps unconsciously about the pianist, Sergio Gallo. I had his Henselt disc with the only version of Henselt's concert version of Weber's Invitation to the dance but found the playing to be pretty dull and cautious. I'll try before I buy with his Rubinstein. I expect no such problem with Martin Cousin's disc.

Beyond excited to notice this little delight on Toccataclassics pipeline page. Two Cds - All the Preludes on CD1 and assorted solos and transcriptions on CD2.

A slight weirdness is that the Fairy Tale op16 no 1 is mentioned but nothing else of op16; was there and op16 no.2 or higher? The Etude appasionato is op3 I think.

Thanks for all the research and info - will just wait now. I had a CD with the op33 piano concerto but gave it away as the performance wasn't great so looking forward to Pecnik's version.

Mia Pecnik has also just recorded this with Jan Latham-Koenig according to her facebook page but I can't see where it is released and the post doesn't make it clear.

The "Chant de la Creuse" is the second of Franck's 18 Pièces brèves.

From the notes:
"The theme was introduced to Franck in 1888 by French art and music connoisseur Paul Poujard who hailed from the Creuse region of France"

Also, rather nicely, these are for the most part unrecorded works. The Aria op36/1 and Intermezzo in Octaves op44/4 were recorded by Peter Ritzen on Marco Polo (there are also recordings of the latter by Frank Merrick and, on piano roll by Ossip Gabrilowitsch). I have a piano roll recording of la Source op36/4 with Mark Hambourg playing and there is an ACO recording of it from 1925 with Maurice Cole at the piano (I wish APR or someone would release a Maurice Cole collection!).

I am very much looking forward to this. Bigger has proved an enterprising pianist and I really enjoyed his previous releases - The Golden Age of the piano, In Alten Stil and The Leschetizky School - lots of otherwise unrecorded repertoire.

This should shed a little light on at least one forthcoming RPC release. I presume it will be 82 but I have no inside info.

I know it isn't a real rarity nowadays but nice to see that Danacord will be issuing a 4th set of Victor Schioler recordings containing a live recording of Palmgren's beautiful Piano Concerto no.2 (the River). The set also apparently contains Nielsen's Violin Sonata op9 but lists it with orchestra so there is some kind of misprint somewhere.

I remember repetiteuring with Mid Wales Opera some years ago where they performed this version of Faust. The baritone was quite miffed that "Avant de quitter ces lieux" was absent though he did have a duet with Marguerite that isn't in the revised version. Siebel has a really lovely little aria that also didn't make it.

A concert dedicated to the Boulanger sisters. Lili's glorious works and an unpublished Fantaisie Variee for piano and orchestra written by Nadia for her "companion" Raoul Pugno. Lovely music and a great find in the Nadia Boulanger. I hope Dariescu has an opportunity to record this work.
