The Wolf-Ferrari trios are beautiful, lush, melodious works, and the performances on my Nuova Era CD seem excellent. It will be interesting to read in due course how they are thought to stack up against the new Brilliant CD. Always good to have more Wolf-Ferrari, though!

A disappointment is Wolf-Ferrari's sacred mystery"Talitha Kumi" on that recent Naxos CD. But this is just my personal opinion...
Hadn't even heard of that one. Looking forward to hearing his Dante-inspired Vita Nuova though of which I recall reading an intriguing review... (or am I thinking of one of the several others including Hubay who wrote works setting or inspired by that text)...
His "Vita Nuova" is a masterwork. The old Koch-Schwann recording is good - but a new recording would always be welcome... Incidentally, this work was performed twice in Berne, Switzerland, by Fritz Brun: in 1924 (Swiss premiere) and in 1930, the first in Berne's cathedral, the second in the concert-hall.
La Vita Nuova is a truly marvellous work. I have the Koch-Schwann recording. Is a more modern one in the offing? That would be exciting.
Nothing heard so far. Suppose Maestro Haider wants do record this cantata too, since he once mentioned his intention of recording all of WF's works... Perhaps he continues on various labels, where he already did the Violin concerto, the Suite Veneziana, "I gioielli della Madonna" (a new cpo recording is overdue!!) and "Il segreto di Susanna" (which was promoted in 2006 as a great discovery - although Gardelli's Decca recording was done in 1976 already and the one conducted by Pritchard in 1990. The latest version is Vasily Petrenko's (2010). At present I cannot remember earlier recrding that the Decca one...

The recording done in Freiburg (the german version "Der Schmuck der Madonna") last season or season before, should be issued anytime soon I suppose. And on CPO, as Naxos just issued the Haider version.

Yeah, we discussed this Naxos version earlier on. I was a bit disappointed for various reasons...
The new "Quattro Rusteghi" CD from Liverpool (it was recorded in 2012) could be well-done by Vasily Petrenko, At last, there are many Italian-speaking singers doing it. But I warn you: it's sung in Venetian dialect, which is quite another world...

Extremely difficult music, this for the singers, the players - and for the conductor! Above all, there is a nightmarish ensemble which, in live performances, very seldomly results without mistakes.
