Title: Dorothy Howell
Post by: Gareth Vaughan on Monday 29 January 2024, 17:44
Now here is something to look forward to: https://www.prestomusic.com/classical/products/9591636--dorothy-howell-orchestral-works (https://www.prestomusic.com/classical/products/9591636--dorothy-howell-orchestral-works)

It certainly whets my appetite. Dorothy Howell knew how to write for the orchestra - and this disk seems to cover all of her extant orchestral music (with the exception of the piano concerto which has already been recorded twice). I hope (and expect) that this new recording of "Lamia" will supersede the old Cameo Classics one (now re-released and remastered by Lyrita) which, although serviceable, could have been better.

Rumon Gamba also recorded Lamia on Chandos in British Tone Poems, Vol. 2.
Her PC is one of my favorites, and I've just ordered the old Dutton disc of her Vln & Pno compositions. Can't wait for this new release.

I'd forgotten the Rumon Gamba on Chandos. Yes, that's a very good performance and recording. Thanks for the reminder.
