I think that it might be appropriate to point out to those who have used that invaluable book by Eric Gilder "Dictionary of Composers and their Music"(1985) that the catalogues I have been compiling are-and I fear this will sound, perhaps grotesquely, immodest-more accurate and complete than those in Gilder's text.
My scope is, of course, more restricted (to orchestral and orchestra-accompanied choral music) but I have also tried to include opus numbers, timings and cd discographies. By using publishers' catalogues and many other resources I have, I think, been able to correct inaccurate dates in Gilder and to add works which Gilder omitted.
