I hope some kind soul records and shares this. Unfortunately I can't this time.
Oh, please, somebody!
Do none of you guys have a program scheduler/timer on your recording devices?
I use Total Recorder as most of the European webcasts are broadcast in Australia at around 3.00 a.m.
Of course, if all else fails, I can always rely on BerlinExpat!
Yes, of course I do, Mike, but I'm a few thousand miles away from home at present and will be for several weeks. Also, I don't like to take the good nature of others for granted. Hence the bleat.
My two recording devices are already in position :-) One digital from cable Radio and another one from the internet Bayerischer Rundfunk podcast :-)
Oh, that's great. Thank you.
Yes, thanks Adriano.
I wonder if this is going to offer a re-listen? Has anyone been there before? And echo thanks to Adriano LOTS of things.

Well, the reception via cable AND internet Radio just had problems tonight (we have very bad weather and storms today), so I could only get a clean recording after about a half an hour. Let's hope they are making a podcast available; this is generally done one or two days afterwards. Generally, such podcasts are available on this side:
http://www.br-online.de/podcast/radio/mp3-download-podcast-uebersicht-br-klassik.shtml
Or perhaps we make a "joint venture" over UC
Will try and let you know tomorrow
So sorry about that... :-(
No problem. Good of you to have tried.
Thanks, Adriano. Sometimes the gods are against us!
It's there! :-)

Enjoy!
However, this morning, the internet connection to this site is still very much disturbed and there are continuosus interruptions :-(
Suppose, since this is another Palazetto Bru Zane production, this will be issued on CD anyway. Bayerischer Rundfunk has an own CD label with an interesting catalogue - they just issued Sondheim's "Sweeney Todd" (also conducted by Schirmer
Thank you Hadrianus!
I just downloaded it! It's a big video file (4Gig). Sound is good (AAC 192k).
Unless someone else is doing the same, I can extract the audio as MP3 128k and upload it on mediafire.
The vocal score is on imslp.
A number of documents, including the manuscript, can be found on Gallica at bnf.fr.
hi jdperdrix :-)
Are you sure it's complete and without interruptions?
I am working on it too, but I discovered another break of a couple of minutes in act 3, so I will try to repair this by re-downloading it around there and mount it... In my file, applauses will be faded out and the long intermission feature (in German) with interviews would be coming as a final supplement.
Hadrianus,
I did not check the whole file for interruptions. The one you get when you download is 4,251,306 kbytes and lasts 2 hours and 33 minutes. There are no interviews during the intermissions, so it has been already edited by BR. The last 4 minutes are applauses.
I've extracted the audio as MP3 160k/48kHz sampling. It's 174 Mbytes. I've uploaded it without any editing on mediafire. Here's the link, if you want to check:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/e5cdh1we3k7wf2h/Godard_Dante.zip (http://www.mediafire.com/download/e5cdh1we3k7wf2h/Godard_Dante.zip)
As you seem to be editing it, I won't do it, unless it's necessary.
So no use adding this link to the download section.
hi again jdperdrix :-)
Have finished editing and correcting. 4 separate MP3 files plus bonus. The 3rd act needed a lot of editing because of the bad connection, but now it seems to be OK.
I have no practice with uploading files, what I caould do is to send mine to you by wetransfer, so you can also check. Let me know your e-mail address via UC messenger.
I have a perfect copy with applause except ends of acts edited out, but it looks as if others have beaten me to it!
Do upload, if you have the time...
Thanks go to BerlinExpat for uploading the work. It's now available here:
http://www.unsungcomposers.com/forum/index.php/topic,5973.msg63151/boardseen.html#new (http://www.unsungcomposers.com/forum/index.php/topic,5973.msg63151/boardseen.html#new)
Much appreciated, Colin!
Absolutely. Thanks Colin. I'm looking forward to hearing this when I get back home.
Thanks to BerlinExpat for uploading.
I'd edited the file myself and followed with the score.
Actually, the 1st act lasts some 35 minutes and the 2nd only 33. Check with the score on imspl. Your cut is after N°5.(http://i68.servimg.com/u/f68/18/98/21/49/dante11.jpg)
PS. I've checked your files on mediafire. Given their size, you have fixed that already!
Many thanks for pointing that out, jdperdrix. I'd labelled my CDs incorrectly! I've recently discovered a Staedler Lumoplast eraser will remove the ink from a permanent marker from a CD.
Happy to see that others could organize downloads. Hope those are better than mine, which, still, is quite OK, but have some little interferences... Next time I hope to be able again to record from digital cable radio and not from internet radio. My recording of "Cinq Mars" has come out excellently.
The music of this opera o Dante is very beautiful indeed; on the other hand, what the librettist made out of the main character is quite discussable :-) The vocal tessituras are great and quite demanding.
The whole piece fits quite well to some of Gustave Doré's engravings - as a cover to my CDRs I just used one of them!
To those interested in iconographic documents, go to gallica.bnf.fr, or click http://gallica.bnf.fr/services/engine/search/sru?operation=searchRetrieve&version=1.2&startRecord=0&maximumRecords=15&page=1&query=%28gallica%20all%20%22godard%20dante%22%29 (http://gallica.bnf.fr/services/engine/search/sru?operation=searchRetrieve&version=1.2&startRecord=0&maximumRecords=15&page=1&query=%28gallica%20all%20%22godard%20dante%22%29). On the first page, you'll find Godard's manuscript and drawing by Mucha for the characters of the opera as well as engravings by Morland.
Merci! Très jolies et fort intéressant, jdperdrix :-)
The opera is now slated for release in ES's wonderful series:

Having read the comments of Mark and Alan on Felicien David's music, I must say I tend to agree with Alan, though (like him) I am glad to have made the journey and will happily revisit some of the places. But Godard, on the other hand, strikes me as a composer more worthy of exploration, and I hope ES will do that. The release of "Dante" bodes well.
My goodness, Dante is a terrific score. Quite dark to start with and containing some strenuous writing for the tenor lead - well sung here, thank goodness (by Edgaras Montvidas). More when I have absorbed more of the opera...
The 2-CD box is now available with a very comprehensive booklet, as usual from Palazzetto Bru Zane/Ediciones Singulares.
I've not checked if there are cuts. The vocal score is available at imslp.
It's been available for a month now...
Coming a bit late to the party, I know, but I have just finished listening to this and it really is a great piece, excellently sung and played, and favoured with an fine recording and the usual high quality Palazzetto Bru Zane booklet. I wasn't expecting something quite so dramatic and exciting as this from Godard but, my word, he pulled out all the stops on this one! French opera at it's best!
Absolutely spot-on. A very exciting discovery indeed!
Unbelievable! Dante is going to be staged next year!!! March 8th, 10th and 12th in St. Etienne. I've got my tickets.
They've also got Isouard's Cendrillon in the programme.
