The first thing to say about Ariane is that, if you're looking for another Thaïs or Werther, you'll probably be disappointed. This is late Massenet (1905, fp 1906) with clear Wagnerian influences (e.g. in the orchestration) and a more declamatory style overall. But stay with it and you'll discover a new, more subtle and experimental composer. Above all, Massenet remains the man of the theatre, capable of a wide range of emotions and ever willing to try something new.

Buy this before it disappears!

I have this recording and can highly recommend it. Note that it comes in a very finely done book format with CD slip sleeves to hold the discs. so it won't fit in a standard CD case
