I got my CD a couple of days after I'd ordered them. Mr Juteau told me that I was lucky to have one of his very last copies. So, hurry up! I know he also played Mehul's No. 2 (see https://youtu.be/95DQIAPiOgE) back in 2009. Alas no recording was made.

QuoteI have been very lucky, as the conductor has a handful of CDs left to purchase, and I have just bought one !!

I did the same. Mr Juteau answered immediately, I made a bank transfer and  got one copy of the CD for me and one for a friend.

Composers & Music / Re: Hélène de Montgeroult
Saturday 16 October 2021, 15:41
For those who just discovered Hélène de Montgeroult, let me recommend this document about her life and work, featuring among others Jérôme Dorival and pianist Edna Stern. Hélène de Montgeroult's life is quite fascinating, apart from her works.
https://youtu.be/Z_vCr6Totw0
It's in French with English subtitles.
I'm happy a double CD of her piano sonatas is to be released by Nicolas Horvath.

Suggestions & Problems / Re: VLC Player
Thursday 09 September 2021, 16:59
I had the same problem!
I think the following should work:
Open vlc then
tools -> preferences
At the bottom in show settings click All
Then choose Playlist and make sure that Playfiles randomly forever is unselected.
Don't forget to click on the Save button.
Finally close vlc and restart it (you have to do this to take the modifications into effect).
Hope it helps!

Suggestions & Problems / Re: VLC Player
Monday 06 September 2021, 18:11
I still use VLC but not for music. It is a very powerful player, with (too) many features. But for music I switched to foobar2000. The reason is the following. When playing mp3 tracks, VLC marks a short pause (maybe .1 second), which is really disturbing when the tracks should follow without interruption. And foobar2000 does not do this. I think it has to do with the way each player anticipates the next track, but I'm not sure. Anyway, foobar2000 is easy to use and works fine for sound tracks. But for videos, I still use VLC.

Recordings & Broadcasts / Re: Chausson's Le roi Arthus

Quotethe haunting, transcendent finale.
Those transcendent moments are really the best part of the opera. An other one is the scene between Arthus and Merlin in the second half of act 2 ("Pommiers verts, pommiers prophétiques,...").
The opera was staged in 2015 at the Opéra de Paris, under Philippe Jordan with, among others, Roberto Alagna as Lancelot, with an unfortunate staging by Graham Vick, and broadcast on Mezzo https://www.mezzo.tv/fr/Op%C3%A9ra/Le-Roi-Arthus-de-Chausson-%C3%A0-l%27Op%C3%A9ra-de-Paris-160.
It does not seem to have been released. I have a copy of the video. It's 2.6 GBytes long... I could post it as multipart rar if anyone is interested.

Composers & Music / Re: Some 2021 unsung concerts
Sunday 11 July 2021, 09:23
Beautiful concert yesterday at Versailles. An audience of no more than 50! But it was outdoors (well, almost) and it was raining! Gary Hoffmann (cello) and David Selig (piano) played sonatas by Boëllmann and Godard, as well as a short piece by Milhaud, Elégie. The encore was not-so-unsung Fauré's Elegie...

QuoteThere is a recording of her symphony available on Vimeo with the same conductor, Debora Waldman, and the Orchestre Victor Hugo, Franche Comté.
Quite interesting indeed. She had good professors (Vierne, d'Indy), which is obvious in her symphony. I've never heard an orchestral piece by Mel Bonis. This concert will be most welcome. I'll try to get it from France Musique (from their replay section).

Quotes from the entry "Pitch (music)" on wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pitch_(music)#Pitch_standards_and_standard_pitch:

QuoteStandard pitch is a more widely accepted convention. The A above middle C is usually set at 440 Hz (often written as "A = 440 Hz" or sometimes "A440"), although other frequencies, such as 442 Hz, are also often used as variants. Another standard pitch, the so-called Baroque pitch, has been set in the 20th century as A = 415 Hz—approximately an equal-tempered semitone lower than A440 to facilitate transposition. The Classical pitch can be set to either 427 Hz (about halfway between A415 and A440) or 430 Hz (also between A415 and A440 but slightly sharper than the quarter tone). And ensembles specializing in authentic performance set the A above middle C to 432 Hz or 435 Hz when performing repertoire from the Romantic era.

I've read that Insula Orchestra uses a pitch of 430 (the French official pitch was set at 435 in 1859).

For viewers in France and Germany (or elsewhere with a VPN?) there is a video of Laurence Equilbey conducting both symphonies with her orchestra https://www.arte.tv/fr/videos/102491-000-A/insula-orchestra-joue-les-symphonies-n-1-et-3-de-louise-farrenc/

I do have a CD version of this symphony, by a local orchestra, "Les musiciens de la Prée (orchestre en résidence au Théâtre de Poissy)" (Poissy is a small town in the suburbs of Paris), also known as "Orchestre de l'Alliance", conducted by Pejman Memarzadeh. It's a public concert, and the CD is confidential. I can't even remember how I found it! But it's pretty good and it's remarkable that a semi-professional orchestra performed such a neglected work.
By the way, I saw it on ebay.
I'm looking for any other performance.

It should appear soon in the downloads section.

It's not as easy as I thought. But I'll do it anyway!
