Gosh!  So many to name.

Since the Sterling label was named, I'll nominate Josef Otto af Sillén, represented thereon by his Violin Concerto and Third Symphony.
Lovely - that exists on You Tube, so can 'discover' him at leisure, thanks !

A chance for Unsung Composers buffs to shine !
Picked up yesterday in the marvellous Gramex shop in Waterloo a Marco Polo disc of Guatemalan composer Ricardo Castillo(1894-1966); a ballet score Paal Kaba, incidental music from another Quiche Achi, plus a Rhapsody for Orchestra, Symphonic Poem & several other pieces. Much based on Mayan legend & Amerindian musical sources, according to the blurb, and very listenable too, thank you !
Internet research thus far has failed to throw up anything about him,  so over to you !

And while we're at it, any more real 'one-offs' out there that people have come across ? Come on, Ladies & Gentlemen, how about a real 'Obscurities Corner' on USC ! If they're as pleasant as this, which I'm listening to now, it'll be a delight to discover them - this of course is where you tell me 'Oh, we've had a page devoted to him/this topic for years' !

In my hopelessly inadequate efforts to catch up with all the beautiful music that was downloaded here before I joined, never mind that which has come since, just listening now to the 6th Symphony, tried first as the experts seem to think it's his best.
Wonderful, thanks. Mr. Sulek has a new convert !

Finally succeeded in being able to download the Heino Eller Symphony No.3 and the Artur Kapp Symphonies, Nos. 1 "Quasi una fantasia", 2 and 5 "Peace Symphony"(which I finally worked is is "Ruhusuumfoonia" in Estonian :))) from the Muusika24.ee site.

Unfortunately, the site provides no details of performers :( One assumes that the orchestra is the Estonian State Radio Symphony Orchestra but names of conductors are there none, nor any indication of date of broadcast(they definitely are radio broadcasts rather than commercial LPs/cds).

There are no Estonian experts on here are there to match Latvian's expertise with respect to that country ???
Gee, how did you manage that ? I 'faffed' about for ages & achieved nothing.....actually that's not so unusual !

Tips-
(a) Register with the site.
(2) Click on 'English'
(3) Search in the Classical Music section but enter the composer's full name in the Search box, rather than clicking on his initial letter as you are invited to do.
(4) All of the composer's works available on the site should now be shown but in Estonian. Do not try to switch back to English because you will be taken back to the start ::)
(5) The rest is relatively intuitive ;D I managed to download three Artur Kapp, three Eugen Kapp and one Eller symphony without too much trouble but, I admit, that was reasonably easy once I had worked out that "suumfonia" meant 'symphony' ;D

Well done ! Many thanks for that.           Clive.

Thank you for this discussion of the symphonies of Jazeps Medins......not because his two symphonies are really entirely my sort of music(they are certainly pleasant and attractive but I rather prefer Ivanovs, Skulte and Kalnins ;D)....but because in looking up Medins I suddenly realised that the earlier downloads of four orchestral pieces were by his younger brother Janis Medins.

Jazeps was born in 1877 and Janis in 1890 and I had, inadvertently, conflated the two :-[
Thank you - I assumed Janis was 'the one', but in fact it's a 'holy' trinity !

Amphissa,

Many, many thanks for the upload of "Bridge of Dawn" by Joep Franssens :) :)

It is the most gorgeously beautiful music :)

Another composer of whom I had never heard ;D I downloaded the piece, as I have downloaded so many more orchestral works from this site but, from your description of it, decided to try it out right away and am totally captivated by it. It was written only a few years ago too..........marvellous :)
I'm with you, Dundonnell, it's why this site is so marvellous....how would we have had an earthly hope of stumbling across something lovely like this without the guys(& gals) who frequent these pages !

Thanks again for making this available :) :)

I really urge other members to listen to this piece. It is really rather wonderful-in my opinion of course ;D

My Winrar 40 day free trial doesn't seem to realise it expired a while ago & is still happily unlocking files from the marvellous downloads section.
Did that when I had it on an older computer too, so should work for all.             Clive.

Latvian, if you have some regional music you'd be prepared to share that would be just terrific !  I'll keep fingers crossed.     Clive.

Always on the lookout for 'novelty', was intrigued by the Naxos disc 'Azerbaijani piano concertos', which I found fascinating, and has led me to try to find out a little more about Fikret Amirov & fellow countrymen/women.
Anyone know/have anything more ?

Thanks.                          Clive.

The most disturbing revelation was that if I continued listening to all the lovely music out there 24/7 for the rest of my days I would never get up to date.
The most joyous revelation - that this forum and YT give me every chance of discovering a whole lot more than I ever thought possible.

For which many, many thanks, and a Happy 2012 to all !            Clive.

Dear All.

I have the most glorious time learning about music on this site, and the downloads section is just...too good to be true, for which many, many thanks to everyone involved.
The naming of folders by country is entirely logical & works very well. Did wonder, though, as a particular 'fan' of choral music, whether there could be any mileage in creating folders for specific types of composition.
It'd be my idea of heaven to find one with countless little-known requiems/oratorios etc. - others no doubt would welcome concerti, solo instrument, solo voice.... and so on.
Sorry if it's a silly idea; I'm a very ignorant follower of the site & can't be expected to know any better. Very best wishes to all.

                                               Clive.
