And here is a link to another text by Christopher Latham on FS Kelly:

There is also a new release of his fascinating 1911 string trio on a somewhat obscure label Auurk, the liner notes and mp3-downloads can be found here:

https://store.cdbaby.com/cd/septimustrio

QuoteThe work gained some popularity around this time being also performed by the famous cellist Pablo Casals (who performed often with Kelly in recitals) as well as by the violist Lionel Tertis, and the violinist Jelly D'Aranyi

Lossless downloads from Qobuz are available as well, e.g.

Don't miss this!

Recordings & Broadcasts / Marx Autumn Symphony from cpo
Tuesday 04 September 2018, 21:19
I just found a reference, stating that there has been made a studio recording of this symphony (not with the London PO):

   https://www.realsound.it/recording-schedule/

Quote
2018, June 26th - 30th: CD studio recording of "Eine Herbstsymphonie" by Joseph Marx with Johannes Wildner and Philharmonisches Orchester Graz for CPO

Unfortunately - as is usual with cpo - there may be a delay of several years (up to 10-12!) between recording and actual release,
but let's hope that we will get this CD much sooner.

QuoteThis is a delightful work, rather in the style of Glazunov- I have a performance by Antal Dorati, which is excellent. Happy to hear that it continues to get attention.

Thanks a lot for bringing Dorati's recording to my attention.

The Berlin performance of the Dukas/Prokofiev/Schmidt program is on Deutschland Radio for some weeks here:

QuoteThe Suter VC would have made a much better coupling for the Schoeck VC in Hyperion's RVC series.

...  that have been my thoughts too! I would really like to hear this work - one of my absolute favourite VCs - played by Chloe Hanslip!
It is also a pity that Daniel Hope's performance together with Botstein has never been released as a recording.

Hello John,

what has been happening with the planned recording of Weigl's violin sonatas? Will they sometime be available on CD?

Re: Magnard in Freiburg / Germany

The Freiburg Philharmonisches Orchester will continue its Magnard cycle the next season 17/18 with Magnard's 3rd symphony on 2018-03-20
and several smaller pieces (Hymne a Venus, Chant funebre) under the direction of Fabrice Bollon (intended to be recorded for Naxos).
In addition they will perform Moeran's g minor symphony on 2018-04-10 (to be conducted by Simon Gaudenz)
and Y.Stankovich's 2nd Symphony on 2018-05-15 (conducted by Oksana Lyniv).

Marteau's estate can be found in Lichtenberg, Oberfranken (part of Bavaria).
They also regularly organize a Marteau violin competiton.

I've posted mp3s of the off-air recordings of the first two symphonies (and the Concert Overture for good measure) in the Downloads Board here.

Thank you, Mark!

QuoteI didn't know CPO had recorded the Sträßer symphonies.

@ Mark Thomas:

Could you perhaps be so kind an reupload (or provide a new download link for) the Sträßer symphonies?
That would be great!

BTW: I would consider recordings with the Nordwestdt. Philharmonie conducted by W.A.Albert much more likely to originate from the 1980s rather
than being new productions for cpo.

QuoteBtw: I note that the upload is in flac format. I wonder whether we could request that, as a general rule, uploads could be in mp3 format?

I could also provide the tracks as .mp3 files.

Just for myself I prefer .flac in such cases, because the original recording has been in some lossy format (maybe .aac or even .mp2,
I actually don't remember !!),  and transcoding this to a different lossy format normally isn't quite a good idea.
However, I don't want to pretend that this has been a "lossless" (i.e. CD quality) recording.

Hello minacciosa,

I've recorded that broadcast and can post the two works this weekend until cpo will release them on CD some 10 years later ...
