I was in two minds about whether to compile a catalogue of Patric Standford's music. The only piece of his I recall hearing-the Symphony No.1 "The Four Seasons", available for download here-is quite a 'modern-sounding piece'. Although a pupil of Edmund Rubbra, Standford also studied with both Malipiero and Lutoslawski. I understand that one member here has crossed swords with Standford in print :)
However, Standford is a living British symphonist and (the deciding factor) his First Symphony and the Cello Concerto played by Raphael Wallfisch have recently been recorded under the baton of David Lloyd-Jones no less for issue shortly on cd by the British Music Society. I considered therefore that it would be a good idea for those encountering Standford for the first time to know what he has composed in the orchestral and choral fields.
