Title: Raff & Erdmannsdörfer
Post by: eschiss1 on Sunday 12 November 2017, 14:59
Just noticed that-not for the first or last time in music history- Joachim Raff and Max E dedicated works to each other, maybe more than one each, maybe a deliberate trade at some point: I noticed eg the Raff fantasy op.207(b) (dedicated to Max and Pauline) and Erdmannsdörfer's piano trio in A minor published in 1880. If anyone has heard both these two works (I will try to hear the Raff which I may be able to stream over NML) would they make a good concert program (the former in its arranged form) in your opinion?

Both versions of Raff's Op.207 (a, for two pianos and b, for piano quintet) are dedicated to the Erdmannsdörfers. The piano quintet version is available on a Divox CD in a fizzing performance from Il Triticco. I've never heard anything by Erdmannsdörfer, but would love to.
