I saw M. Yablonsky's recent post on CD cover art in a post about J.F. Forrester. Included therein is a CD cover of a certain Josef Benes. The CD is labeled 'Complete String Quartets, performed by the Martinu Quartet on the Supraphon label. This prompted a search for this particular CD. I used identifiers like Joseph Benesch, Martinu Quartet, and Supraphon on sites ranging from jpc to discogs. After all this I was left with one question: is Josef Benes made of whole cloth and if so, where on earth can I find some trace of this CD? That the man existed, that I now know, but what happened to the CD containing his chamber music appears to be only known to M. Yablonsky and God. If anyone out there can help me access this CD, I would appreciate it.

Composers & Music / Rufinatscha Piano Trio

In response to Martin's query*, I too have listened to and enjoyed Rufinatscha's two piano quartets. He wrote three other chamber works, two string quartets and a piano trio. It is his Piano Trio in A-flat Major that I love the most. Has anybody else heard it and do you agree with me?
This is one of my favorite piano trios of all time and reminds me of Schumann at his best. There is melody galore, especially in the Adagio expressione third movement. It features one of Rufinatscha's most endearing melodies - borrowed from his piano concerto - and is the emotional heart of the piece. The trio, which I consider standard repertoire material, remains, in my opinion, unnoticed and unheard by the vast majority of members to this blog.
The piano trio and two piano version of Rufinatscha's only piano concerto were released on a Tiroler Landesmuseum CD in 2001 that does not have a catalog number. I was extremely lucky to obtain a copy many years later. Most unfortunately, unless you have the CD or access to a copy, you probably will never be able to listen to this magnificent piece of romantic music. I cannot find the trio on YouTube or anywhere else for that matter. I am hoping that a fellow member with more knowledge and resources than I have, can prove me wrong.
