The digitised Borgstrom MSS held by the National Library of Norway can be found here

The PC Op. 22 is MS 2106 - MS Full Score is here and Orchestral Parts are here

There are also MSS of a PC in D minor and one in G minor. However, these appear to be incomplete.

This is a really attractive collection. Among the many gems, Suter's VC stands out for me.

QuoteThe Kovarovic concerto was one of many that Hyperion perhaps should have taken up! I did mention it several times to Mike Spring in years gone by, but he never seemed to be interested.

So did I, Martin. I even suggested he coupled it with the Novak, which at one time he seemed to be considering, and sourced the material for him. Alas, it was not pursued. I agree with Mark about the Kapralova - it's quite attractive, I think.  I don't, I'm afraid, know a note of music by Pavel Borkovec. However, both his piano concerti can be heard on YouTube, the second here.  Having just sampled both I can say that No. 2 is a bit like Shostakovich, without the tunes, and preferable (to my ears, at least) to No. 1, which I find quite spiky and unappealing.

I'd forgotten the Rumon Gamba on Chandos. Yes, that's a very good performance and recording. Thanks for the reminder.

I absolutely agree. Trash can be fun sometimes. Great fun!

Now here is something to look forward to: https://www.prestomusic.com/classical/products/9591636--dorothy-howell-orchestral-works

It certainly whets my appetite. Dorothy Howell knew how to write for the orchestra - and this disk seems to cover all of her extant orchestral music (with the exception of the piano concerto which has already been recorded twice). I hope (and expect) that this new recording of "Lamia" will supersede the old Cameo Classics one (now re-released and remastered by Lyrita) which, although serviceable, could have been better.

J.B. Priestley took great delight in Moszkowski's music, as he made clear in an essay.

QuoteAnd the WorldCat entries don't list any libraries holding them. Did they really exist?

That's what I mean.

My point was that those symphonies supposedly by Franke which Eric notes as listed by WorldCat in editions by Vogt & Fritz seem to have disappeared from their catalogue, if indeed they ever existed in "complete" scores. Very suspicious...

Well none of Franke's orchestral music is listed as available in score on the publisher's website now.

Quote from: eschiss1 on Tuesday 02 January 2024, 16:41Just because ÖNB only has the score doesn't mean someone doesn't have the Kauffmann parts - what became of Paez? Hopefully not destroyed in WW2 like Junne and other publishers :( (but yes, someone might have, but who? :) ) (Btw LoC has an ambiguous - "unk" - entry for Kauffmann's symphony also.)

Well, yes - but they are not, at present at least, obviously available. One presumes Vogt&Fritz made parts from whatever score they had, but that may have been doctored somewhat by Franke. We just don't know without comparing the score at ONB with that produced by Vogt&Fritz.
I don't like that "unk" at LoC!

QuoteHow/In what form the music reached the publisher in the first place is unknown.

And there's the rub, of course. One would be interested to know.

I was thinking much the same thing, Alan. He certainly seems to have been something of a charlatan.
