Well eClassical is still operating as usual, including daily comments on the deal of the day by Bahr himself, for whatever that's worth.

Note from Moderator:
Thanks for noticing this, TerraEpon. As you can see, I have merged the two threads.

You guys know the quote I wrote was actually on the site right?

"We are doing essential maintenance work on the archive site, and it will be inaccessible for a few hours."

Composers & Music / Re: Léon Kreutzer: Flute Quartet

Quote from: 4candles on Wednesday 20 September 2023, 11:00I would normally have said that for myself too, but given the unusual chamber grouping I was happy to give it a whirl! ;D And of course it would sound even better with real performers.

I wouldn't even consider it that unusual. Groups of four of the same woodwinds (or woodwind family) isn't really THAT uncommon, though granted I've seen it much more with clarinets and saxophones. The only somewhat-known composer who wrote a piece specifically for four flutes is Eugene Bozza, but Khulau wrote some pieces for three flutes, and I have a couple discs with ensembles of five, fourteen (!), and four + piano -- obviously almost all arrangements, but still.

True, even the title track is on a disc from the 90s that also has the Dukas, Saint-Saens and Franck on it. Probably will do selective as well (especially given I have the boxset they put out that has the aformentioned pieces by Bonis and Holmes)

Oooh looos nice.

And shoutouts to Bru Zane for releasing two separate recordings of the Bonis and Holmes in less than a year, rather than just throwing the other recordings in.

Oh man, finally. I've had this preview video in my bookmarks forever

Quote from: eschiss1 on Tuesday 08 August 2023, 01:38If we're talking about YouTube, that point's been addressed multiple times, it feels like, and gets ignored each time.

No, I'm talking Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music, Tifal, Deezer, Qobuz and so on. THAT is the main place most people in the world use consume music these days. Few people buy physical media, far more buy subscriptions to their favorite streaming service.

Quote from: Ebubu on Monday 07 August 2023, 14:47but I don't understand the "immense benefits" of having their catalogue available free for nothing or close.

Clearly there's plenty of benefit, or streaming wouldn't be the defacto way of releasing music in 2023.

If you haven't seen, their statement about it is as follows:

"Hyperion albums are now available for streaming ... Having resisted the medium for many years, we have decided the time is finally right, giving our esteemed artists the increased visibility they so deserve, and allowing the riches of our catalogue to be discovered by a new generation. Some two hundred albums—presenting a broad overview of the catalogue and including many of our finest treasures—are available now, and more will be added over the coming months"

'We have decided'.....more like Universal has. Lawl.

That is a great quote!

It does appear to be an official upload, however.

Note that a large majority of music from many labels (not sure about Toccata, but Naxos for instance is one) are available on YT uploaded by the label or its partner officially. Which they absolutely have the right to do of course.

And yeah, believe me the majority of people really don't consider listening on YT to be piracy any more than on Spotify or anywhere else.

According to the 'Bio-Bibliography' catalog, the Mazurkas are from before the Etude. Also the 'Etude printanière' was only given that title in a later published collection, it was published as simply Etude (or I suppose "1st Etude" looking at the IMSLP page for it). Not sure where they are getting the a/b parts from,
