Does anyone know of a CD or digital recording of Lanchbery's score for the ballet Mayerling, for which he used various works by Liszt? I only know of the Opus Arte DVD of the ballet.
Would love to hear this, always a big fan of this sort of thing.
As far as Liszt used as ballet, there's "Dante Sonata", arr. by Constant Lambert, which is on this 2CD set - https://www.amazon.com/Tribute-Sir-Fred-Barry-Wordsworth/dp/B0000Y37N8/
There's no CD of the Mayerling score. I've ripped it. Labouring process. This recording comes nearest https://www.amazon.com/Ballet-Music-Sir-Frederick-Ashton/dp/B0007L7OEW/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1523882566&sr=1-1-fkmr0&keywords=dutton+epoch+lanchbery
Thanks. Well, if all else fails I'll get the DVD too and rip it myself. Can you confirm that the recording of the music is free of audience noise and dancers' thumps and bumps?
Not quite, but there's no applause between numbers like there's in the opera house... the recording is good but not great and the orchestra lacks polish. But as a Liszt 'pastiche' I like it.
Thanks. In that case, maybe I'll just chalk the idea up to "a passing fancy" and move on....
