Title: Jean Martinon
Post by: ttle on Thursday 29 December 2011, 09:00
For those interested, the first few minutes of Martinon's Third ("Irish") can be heard on the French national archive website:
http://boutique.ina.fr/audio/PHF07009351/jean-martinon-symphonie-n3-irlandaise.fr.html (http://boutique.ina.fr/audio/PHF07009351/jean-martinon-symphonie-n3-irlandaise.fr.html)
While not as spectacular as the Second and Fourth ("Altitudes", commissioned by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra), it might well be the most beautiful.
The whole recording can be purchased online. Obviously I do not have any personal interest in that site!

Two different performances of Martinon's Cello Concerto are there as well. Great music!
