Hi -

Although the Serebrier set seems to be unavailable in cd form, it is downloadable from Presto Classical, either as mp3 or flac.  See http://www.prestoclassical.co.uk/r/Warner%2BClassics/2564664674#download

It's better than not available at all, anyway.

Hope this helps

Hi all -

This also appears to be available now for download in the US on Emusic.com at single cd rate, making it a pretty good bargain.

How about these two:

Vakula the Smith by Tchaikovsky and Christmas Eve by Rimsky Korsakov  - both have scenes on Christmas Day  (both based on the same Gogol story)

Believe it or not, there is yet another set of Tellefsen's complete piano works, recently issued on the 2-L label, performed by Jorgen Larsen.  It is available on US Amazon.com as mp3 download at a real bargain price of $8.99 (US) for 3:18:13 of music, listing a total of 54 pieces.  I cannot speak to the quality of the playing or recording, but I have had good luck with other albums from this label.  The link, for those interested, is:

Who could have guessed that we could have three sets of this music?

Downloads Discussion Archive / Thank You to All

I cannot begin to express my appreciation for all the wonderful things that have been provided by this incredible community.  I thought I was fairly well acquainted with the corners of the classical, romantic and early 20th century repetoire, but have found to my great pleasure that there is so much more to discover.  Thank you again for all the music I never dreamed of hearing.

Composers & Music / Re: Auber Overtures

Hi -

There are a couple available as downloads form Amazon.com

The first of these are from an old Mercury recording of Paul Paray and the Detroit Symphony.
In addition to several von Suppe overtures, that recorrding also includes Auber's  Masianello, Fra Diavalo and Le Cheval du Bronze Overtures
http://www.amazon.com/Suppe-Overtures-Light-Cavalry-Auber/dp/B0000057LK

There is also a Denon recording featuring the Nurnberg Symphony Orchestra which includes Fra Diavalo, The Black Domino, The Dumb Girl of  Portici and The Sirene.
http://www.amazon.com/Auber-Diavolo-Domino-Portici-Overtures/dp/B002EDQKC8/ref=sr_shvl_album_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1309978346&sr=301-2

I can't speak to the quality if the Denon, but the Parya performances have been well regarded for years.

Hope this helps - if only a little!

There is also an interesting if somewhat episodic Piano Concerto by Jean Cras (1879-1932) available on the Timpani label (TIMPANI 2C2037).  It may be little more modern than most of the works you list, but I think you will find it very accessible, as with his other compositions.
