I became aware of his piano compositions in the early '80s via the "Hearts of Space" radio programme. Never heard any of his orchestral works, unfortunately - so I definitely need this cd.

Interesting. Not at all familiar with Franck's songs... may have to indulge.

"From the Hills of Dream.."
To much to hope for that Mr. Bax set some of Machen's prose poems to music, I suppose...
At any rate I've not heard any of his songs, and only a few of his choral works - so I'm looking forward to this release.

I've never delved into FD's chamber works, so this will be a treat. CPO has become my favorite label, of late.

I Look forward to hearing this.
The Notos Quartett look a bit like Ladytron (pop group).

I very much like the first three you mentioned;  "La Terre Promise" I've yet to hear.

And so my Hiller collection grows...

His piece "Forgotten Dreams" was a favorite of my pre-school days. Still is, actually.

I would have to say that the last mvt of VW's 6th is some of the most profoundly beautiful music written in the 20th century.  The first time I heard it on the radio (early 80s) I was transfixed. It's a piece (the symphony as a whole) that I've come to value even more as time passes.

Came across him in a Felicien David biography (Dorothy Veinus Hagan), where his ode symphony "La Poems de la Mer" was mentioned in conjunction with David's "Christopher Columbus" - by which he was apparently influenced. Not a lot to be found about him, web-wise... apart from a very modest wikipedia page:

The only label I've had defective cd issues with is Bongiovanni.  No luck contacting them, either.

I've seen lps made into clocks and sold on ebay. No idea who would buy such a thing.
