Well I sure wish the Raff Bug would bite some of the young, up-and-coming conductors out there, many of whom seem hell-bent on once again surveying the worn out, over-played chestnuts.

Composers & Music / Re: Just wait...

Yes, Schmidt 2 - I will be there! Bychkov has been doing it a lot lately, hopefully a recording is in the pipeline with the VPO, and the VPO has a better go of it than they did with Leinsdorf, or even worse with Mitropoulis. Then hang around for the Elgar Gerontius. Arrive in London earlier and catch Scheherazade. Sounds like a winner of a week to me!

Composers & Music / Re: Bose and Classical Music

That their software behaves like this isn't at all surprising. In the mass market the performer is the most important item. Then the album/song. I don't use things like Spotify, Pandora, iTunes for much the same reason. I have several hundred cds on my completely out of date and abandoned Zune, but it's OS sure made it simple to play things the way I want. Bose is changing, to be sure. I have a 15 year old Bose system that still plays quite well and sounds great in a small room. When I first got it, they included a Bose sample cd - almost all classical. I suspect that in the youth-driven iPod/iPhone driven market that they are more interested in attracting younger people and that means being more attentive to the music they listen to.

That's what I thought for a brief moment - but the thumping doesn't match the tempo, plus I can hear it after the music ends. It's strange - never had something quite like this on a cd.

Maybe just my copy. :(

Suggestions & Problems / Forgotten Password problems
Tuesday 21 April 2015, 05:46
I switched to a new computer and tried to log in, but seems I forgot my password. When I requested to reset it, the link that was sent to me just took me to the login in page with no instructions about a password reset or anything. Still couldn't login in - tried it several times. So wound up making a new login ID with an alternate email acct. Did I miss something or is the system in error somehow?

I've been listening to the new Raff double cd set for a week now, and enjoying it very much - especially the 1st march on cd 1 - great fun! BUT... has anyone else noticed some weird sounds on the cd? Almost like old LP warping - a constant thumping sound really noticeable at the end of the Liszt. Very distracting with headphones. I notice throughout the 1st cd. I hate to think that all copies are like this.
