Hope it will be recorded, I've forgotten to put the radio on...

Actually the opera is close in style to late romantics, like Wagner and R.Strauss, with oriental colouring similar to late XIX-century french operas.

I've just listened the BBC Radio 3 broadcast of Wexford production of "Herculanum" and I must say, that it is a very exciting and well worked-out grand-opéra. The performance is spectacular and stylish. Though the ballet is cut, the Olympia's Hymn to Venus "Viens, ô blonde déesse" and the chorus-assisted Bacchanale in Act III, that are absent in the official recording, have been restored in Wexford version.

We had this version (also with Kasarova, staged by Philippe Sireuil) in 2006 at the Zurich Opera, conducted by Marc Minkowski
Minkowski? Very curious... Whether there is some recording of this performance?

As I know, the complete opera has already been recorded just before the premiere. It was planed to make a CD release this autumn but there is now but there is now further information yet.

Thanks for the information. I hope they will broadcast the original or corrected version without pauses (the spanish version was apparently transmitted from the same source as the italian one).

I'm afraid the probability of re-broadcast is low. We can wait for the possible official recording for a very long time (Donizetti's "Il furioso all'isola di San Domingo" was performed in Bergamo in 2013, but the information about the DVD release appeared a couple of days ago)...

Yes, italian broadcast was interrupted several times. I think this version is more stable ))
I'll be appreciated to you if you share this tracks (probably it's better to make mp3?), I have not enough time for doing it myself.

I don't know about Bru Zane, but they release new CDs more often then,  for example, Opera Rara. I suppose Opera Rara currently faces more financial problems (especially after the death of Sir Peter Moores, who supported this label for many years).

Is there any available recording of this opera or other Poniatowski opuses?

I've listened to the Rai 3 broadcast yersterday, but in 96 kbit/s quality. Thank tou for uploading the high-bitrate recording! It is always exciting to listen to rare opera. In general, this one has typical form, may be because it was wrote before famous "reformatory" operas of Mercadante, like. Paolo's part is very rossinian. Choruses and ensembles are very beautiful and impressive, like in othe Mercadante's operas. Terzetto-quartet in second act with horn introduction is very innovative. The singing and orchestra playing are great! I hope for DVD release of this masterpiece, especially because of Pier Luigi Pizzi's stage direction. Today Rai3 will broadcast anothe rarity Paisiello's "La grotta di Trofonio".
