Composers & Music / Symphonies of Karl Weigl

Back around the time that Capriccio released it's recordings of Weigl's 1st, 4th and 6th symphonies I formed the possibly erroneous impression that this heralded a complete cycle of the symphonies.  Although I have a vague recollection of stumbling across an online reference somewhere to a planned recording of the 3rd, Capriccio has obviously released no further recordings.

So does anybody know anything more about this?  Does Capriccio have any further plans for a Weigl symphonic cycle, or was the whole thing simply a figment of my imagination from the beginning?   ;D

I wonder if anyone can advise me on this.  I Attempted to order this disc today directly from Schweizer Fonogramm but they seem not to recognize Canada as a valid shipping destination (!) (?).  Has anybody else encountered this and if so have you figured out a workaround?  Amazon has the downloadable version but I wanted to get my hands on a CD.  Thanks in advance!

Gerd,

Are there any definite connections between the sketch(es) you took as your starting point for this scherzo and those used by Barry Cooper in his version of "Beethoven's 10th Symphony"?

Thanks!

I'm a bit of a sucker for this sort of a thing.  I'm not enough of a musician to be able to meaningfully read a score so the only way for me to get any kind of impression of an unfinished work is if someone puts it into a performable version.  And yes I know something like, say, Beethoven's "tenth symphony" or Elgar's piano concerto, is probably only a faint suggestion of what the composer would have done given the chance, but that doesn't necessarily detract from the pleasure the music gives me.  Having said that, my current nominee for a piece incomplete and unsung would be Zemlinsky's early symphony in e minor.  I know nothing of it's state of (in)completion except that supposedly only two movements survive.

Oops!  Does Zemlinsky fit in this forum any longer?  :D

I had noticed that from time to time.   ::)  I generally accept this sort of thing, rightly or wrongly, as being part of the surprisingly anarchistic world of classical music sharing and it's general lack of acknowledgement and seeking of permission to share .  But in this case I thought it was particularly egregious given the sheer effort that Gerd put into his realization, as the well as the fact that the posting on facebook must have followed immediately on the heels of Gerd having shared his work here.

I note that Gerd's realization of Lachner's sixth is now up on facebook.  I hope that was done with your knowledge and consent, Gerd.

Thanks for replying Mark.  The thing is I refer to the Downloads and Downloads Discussion on a semi-regular basis and I genrally know my way around the archives fairly well.  But the Estonian Downloads folder suddenly seems to have disappeared on me, or at least it's no longer showing up on my screen.  Can you steer me in the right direction?

Many thanks,

Brian

Is it just me and my failing powers of perception, or has the Estonian music folder disappeared from the Downloads archive?
